On Thursday, September 16, 2021, Rev. Robert Ervin Sims went to live in his heavenly home. Rev. Sims was the son of the late Ludy and Shirley Sims. He was born in Detroit, MI on June 6, 1957.
Educated in Spartanburg County, he served in the United States Army and later relocated Lexington, SC. Rev. Sims had a career as a licensed truck driver and served as the Assistant Pastor of the Haskell Heights Progressive Baptist Church in Columbia, SC. In addition to his pastoral duties, he served as a Chaplain at Christ Contral Ministries in Lexington.
Rev. Sims was an avid CB’er who went by the handle “Pops”. He also loved dump trucks, cooking, fishing, traveling, donating his time to others, and his membership in the Eureka Lodge #1 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Columbia.
Those left to cherish fond memories are: his loving fiancee, Louise Stokes of Lexington, SC; his sons, Robert Sims, Jr. and Dreyon Dodd, both of Spartanburg; brother, Rev. Larry Sims (Mary) of Spartanburg; sisters, Venise Sims of Spartanburg, Mamie Utsey (Andrew) of Spartanburg, Melissa Wilkins (Kenneth) of Spartanburg, and Angela Williams (Roger) of Fayetteville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins, and friends.
