Michael Barra Obituary


Michael Alfred Barra passed away suddenly March 16, 2024.Born in New York City but raised in Conway, SC, he attended Conway High School and Coastal Carolina University.  He was in the hospitality industry for the past 30 years.

Michael is survived by his parents, Paul and Joan Barra of Columbia, SC, and by his siblings, all of South Carolina: Pauline Barra Peters of Roebuck; Anna Barra Alishaukus (Thomas) of Harleyville; Marne Barra Jenkins (John) of Columbia; Charles Paul Barra of Conway; Jennifer Barra Smith (Jamie) of Johnston; Laura Joan Barra of Charleston; and Carlos Lopez (Yulia) of Hanahan.

A caring son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend, Mike loved entertaining, telling stories, playing games, and instigated many good times. He was thoughtful, considerate and made everyone laugh. He never missed a thoughtful birthday or special occasion wish. Michael loved music and went to concerts as often as he could. His 21 nieces and nephews adored him and referred to him as the funcle in the family.

Michael was a cornea and tissue donor to Sharing Hope SC.

Family and friends can drop in to celebrate his life on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 701 Whaley Market, Columbia, SC from 2-4 PM.
