Stewart Ian Campbell, a distinguished career military man and beloved family member, passed away on March 4, 2026, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Born on July 4, 1961, in Montreal, Canada, Stewart's life was marked by dedication, honor, and an unwavering commitment to service.
Stewart embarked on a remarkable military career, beginning as an officer in the Canadian Army. His dedication to duty led him across borders, eventually joining the United States Navy, where he served with distinction for over 14 years. Among his numerous accolades, Stewart was awarded the Southwest Asian Service Medal, .45 Caliber Marksman, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, M-14 Rifle Marksman, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Medal, Battle "E" Ribbon, and the Global War On Terrorism Service Medal. Notably, he served overseas as a Navy Chaplain Bodyguard, demonstrating both courage and compassion.
Beyond his military accomplishments, Stewart was a man of great intellect and determination. He attended John Abbott College in Montreal and, exemplifying a lifelong commitment to learning, graduated from Providence College in Rhode Island at the age of 53. His academic journey reflected his bright mind and enduring spirit.
Those who knew Stewart remember him as a funny, kind, generous, and loving soul. A true gentleman in every sense, he was well-read, well-traveled, loyal, and devoted. He possessed a special tenderness for animals, children, and the elderly, touching many lives with his warmth and empathy.
After his admirable service in the armed forces, Stewart continued serving others through his work with the Canadian TSA, upholding the same standards of integrity and dedication that defined his military career.
Stewart is survived by his loving wife, Sherry A. Kachanis, and his cherished children: Sean Campbell of Evergreen, Colorado, Kyra Campbell of Montreal, Canada, and Christopher Campbell of Montreal, Canada. He is preceded in death by his father, Bruce Campbell, and mother, Bridgette Grimes Campbell.
Stewart Ian Campbell’s legacy is one of honor, service, and heartfelt kindness. He will be remembered fondly and missed deeply by all who had the privilege to know him.
