Obituary

Shirley Scellick was born December 20, 1929, in Staples, Minnesota and passed away November 19, 2025, in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  She arrived as the third oldest child of 9 other sisters and one brother.  She graduated from Litchville High School and was presented her diploma by her father Emil Erickson a board member for the school district of Litchville, North Dakota.  At the age of 16 and 17, she was invited with her sister Evon to take care of a restaurant for their grandparents and cook for railroad workers.

She was active as a basketball player and played the clarinet. Shirley worked for her dad driving a water truck supplying water for the community. She worked at the Litchville Telephone Co as a telephone operator.  She eventually moved to Ephrata, WA. and worked as a bookkeeper for Coca-Cola Company.

She met Butch in Litchville, North Dakota.   Eventually Butch moved to Washington later returning to Litchville to move Shirley to Ephrata where they married.  She married Wallace (Butch) Scellick July 22, 1950, in Ephrata, Washington, they were married 59 years until Butch passed away in 2009.

They moved to Twin Falls to start a service station business in 1962.  They had three children; Deborah Jean was premature and passed away 4 days later.  Lorna Scellick was born in 1955, and Carol Scellick was born in 1966.

They moved from Twin Falls to Walla Walla, Washington to start a service station business, to get back closer to family, but couldn't get it moving and moved back to Twin Falls. Shirley lived her life as a wife, and book- keeper for Butch and Roy's Service Center on Kimberly Road in Twin Falls and supporting her daughters in sports, dance and also gymnastics.

She met some of the dearest friends they could have ever asked for.  Roy and Leslie Marcellus, Bobby and Paulette Ellis, Randy and Bobette Coats, Fern Coats and Doris Motzner.  All the families would spend holidays together and have a baray of cheeses and crackers, crab and many canned fish on Sundays once a year.  It was a feast!

Jeanine Baker, a dear friend of Shirleys after both their husbands passed away, would spend their time in Jackpot doing what they loved.

Shirley loved Baseball and was so proud of her heritage of being 100% Norwegian.

She left Twin Falls and moved to Kuna in 2020, to be closer to family then a year later moved to South Carolina.

Shirley is survived by daughters, Lorna Scellick (Vicki) and Carol Mealer (Brad); three grandchildren, Jennifer Trusnovec (Josh) Jarid Mealer (Denise), Megan Mealer Ross (Dan); her two sisters, Evon Peterson, Sharon Bauske; one brother Roy Erickson (Henrietta); 10 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
