Katharina
Poland
June 27, 1948 – May 13, 2026
With deep sorrow and heartfelt remembrance, we announce the passing of Katharina Poland, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community. Katharina was born on June 27, 1948, in Stuttgart, Germany, where she grew up and completed her education. In 1981, she embarked on a new chapter in her life by emigrating to the United States, where she would build a life filled with love, devotion, and meaningful work.
Katharina dedicated over 17 years of her career as a skilled seamstress at ADO, where her craftsmanship and attention to detail left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working alongside her. Beyond her professional achievements, she was an avid gardener and swimmer, passions that brought her joy and tranquility throughout her life.
Known for her warm spirit and gentle nature, Katharina found her greatest happiness in spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her home was a sanctuary of love and laughter, where stories were shared and treasured memories were made.
She is lovingly survived by her sons, John Richard Poland, Jr. and his wife Cathy, and Steven Andre Poland and his wife Amy; as well as by many dear grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Hailey Blake (Adam), Adam River Blake, Abel Raine Blake, Arlo Reece Blake, John "Johnny" Richard Poland III, Samantha Ketson Burrell (Justin), Harper Grace Burrell, Easton Ray Burrell, and Tyler Sean Dunn. Their lives are forever touched and enriched by her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support.
Katharina was preceded in death by her parents, Johan and Elizabeth Mergel, and her siblings, Hans Mergel and Elizabeth Schleier—souls who remain vivid in the hearts of those who loved her.
Her journey came to a peaceful close on May 13, 2026, in Boiling Springs, South Carolina. Though she is no longer with us, Katharina's legacy endures through the love she gave so freely and the lives she so deeply touched. She will be remembered as a beacon of strength, grace, and compassion, forever present in the hearts of her family and friends.
