Eric Boynton of Spartanburg SC passed away October 6.  He spent the first 16 years of his life in Massachusetts before moving to South Carolina. He worked at Gerhard's Restaurant for years before joining the Spartanburg Herald Journal as a sports writer. Assigned to the Clemson University football team, he enjoyed the travel associated with the job, including bowl games and two Super Bowls.  His favorite assignment was covering the Masters Golf Tournament which he did for years.

He especially enjoyed his interactions with everyone on his sports beat and the coaches and players he covered.  He will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

He is survived by his sisters Valerie Szondy (Steve) and Victoria Boynton and his nieces Vicki Szondy (Frank) and Kim Marsden (Matt)
